Your energy density now is from nuclear fission(it's still big BUT), 99.99% times isotopes decay to something else, and you loose most of potential fission energy. In the end they just accelerate/redirect positrons to get usual ion drive which we have already for 40 years without stupid limitations of rare beta plus decay.
